Tyne 6 Bridges Bike Ride

We’re delighted that this years Tyne 6 Bridges Leisure Ride is starting at the Cycle Hub, which is part of the Virgin Money Cyclone Weekend held over 27 – 30th June. The ride is aimed at those who wish to have a relaxed ride along the banks of the Tyne river using the Sustrans routes which are completely traffic free and therefore safe for all ages and abilities.

Leaving the Cycle Hub in groups from 6.30pm, the ride travels west along route 72 under the Tyne Bridge, Swing Bridge, High Level Bridge, Redheugh Bridge and on towards Scotswood Bridge along the banks of the Tyne. From here on in, there will be a choice of two different routes. One is 9.5 miles in total and the other is 14.5 miles.

Both routes will have additional signs as well as marshals to direct riders at critical points. All riders must complete their chosen route by 9pm.

All riders under the age 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Any adult may accompany more than one child.

Upon finishing, every rider will receive a T-shirt and Goody Bag. There will also be official photographers around the routes to take pictures of riders.

Everyone who wishes to take part in the ride must pre-register for the event online. Entry is £6 per person. For insurance purposes, all riders must sign in individually. But parents of children under 14 will be allowed to sing in on their behalf.

The main purpose of the day is to raise some cash for fantastic charities like Diabetes UK, so it’s a great excuse to get out on your bike!
