As well as the Tour de France starting, we’ll be hosting special events around particular stages including the last one to see if Mark Cavendish can win at the Champs-Elysee for the 5th consecutive year. On top of that we’ll have a live Shakespeare performance from The Handlebards, who will be embarking on a 926 mile cycling adventure up and down the UK. We’ll also have our Social and Road bike rides as usual as well as the Bike Jumble at the beginning of July.

The Handlebards

The Handlebards are a group of 4 actors touring the UK on bikes, and they’ll be performing Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet at the Cycle Hub at 7.00pm on Saturday 13th July. Tickets are £12 for adults and £10 for concessions. You can call us on 0191 276 7250, e-mail or pop in and see us to get your tickets.

Keep Sunday 21st July free in your diary too as we’ll certainly be holding a closing party for the Tour, with more details in the near future. The Tour officially starts on Saturday 29th June, and we’ll have each stage on our smaller TV in the cafe. So make us your number one venue for this years tour and come and see if Cav can win at the Champs-Elysee yet again! Tickets are £5 for Friday 5th July with Mr Drayton, so give us a call on 0191 276 7250, e-mail or you can collect your tickets from the cafe!

Social and Road Rides

As always our popular Social and Road bike rides will be taking place over the summer. Anyone is welcome to join in the social ride which takes place on the second Saturday of every month, leaving the Hub at 10.00am. However, we suggest that on our road rides (road bikes only), that you’ll need a decent level of fitness as we cycle about 50 miles at around 16mph. These rides happen on the final Sunday morning of every month, again leaving the Cycle Hub at 10.00am. If you’d like to take part then you can either call us on 0191 276 7250 or e-mail to register your interest in either ride.

The Bike Jumble

Our next ‘Bike Jumble’ is taking place on Sunday 7th July at 10.00am til 2.00pm. These are proving very popular, so come down if you’re looking to ‘wheel-n’deal’ a bike bargain. We do provide benches to put your gear on, but you’ll have to come down early as these tend to go relatively quickly.

As always if you have any questions about any of the upcoming events above or anything else we could help you with, then don’t hesitate to call us on 0191 276 7250 or e-mail
