International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. Suffragettes campaigned for women’s right to vote. The word ‘Suffragette’ is derived from the word “suffrage” meaning the right to vote. International Women’s Day honours the work of the Suffragettes, celebrates women’s success, and reminds of inequities still to be redressed. Why not join a Breeze ride to celebrate the success of women’s cycling! Celebrate International Women’s Day with a Breeze bike ride! You’ll discover new routes and explore the Quayside, Heaton Park, Jesmond Dene, Exhibition and Leazes Park.
Newcomers to Breeze rides are very welcome. It’s a good idea to bring some water and you may also want to bring a snack. Dress appropriately for the weather: in cool weather it’s good to wear lots of thin layers, so you can add/remove them as needed; a rain jacket is a good idea too! Wearing a helmet is advisable; if you don’t have one please do not to worry you can still take part. If you enjoy the bike ride and would like to come again perhaps you could look to buy one then. Please bring some money just in case there’s a stop for tea and cake!
The event takes place on Saturday 9th March, leaving The Cycle Hub @ 1.00pm. You can register via this link, but please not spaces are very limited!
