Angel to Admiral

Collect your bike at the Cycle Hub and then we’ll whisk you to the iconic Angel of the North where you’ll start your ride to Tynemouth. From here you’ll head through Low Fell and Gateshead, where you’ll skirt through the grounds of Saltwell Park and Behsham, home to the city’s Jewish community before rolling downhill to the Tyne via the Sage Music Centre in Gateshead before crossing the Millennium Bridge and heading along the Quayside.

You’ll soon spot the Cycle Hub once more, where you’ll be tempted in by the aroma of coffee and the yummy cakes. From here, it is flat all the way to the coast. You’ll be cycling ‘beside’ the Tyne as you head through the areas industrial / ship-building heartland. At Wallsend, there is the chance to visit Segedunum Roman Fort, before continuing to North Shields and it’s bustling Fish Quays. Renowned for its fish n chips, cafes and pubs this makes for a great ‘pit-stop’. Following the promenade Tynemouth Priory will soon come into view and signifies the end of your ride.

Tynemouth is a pretty seaside town and a great place to explore. So time to lock up your bikes, kick off your shoes and head to Longsands beach and so for a paddle. From here you cross the River Tyne twice, before you will cycle along an old wagon way towards Newburn

Soon after Newburn you’ll spot the famous bridges across the River Tyne, including the “blinking eye” Millennium Bridge which you will cycle past, with the imposing Baltic Arts centre and Sage Music Centre dominating the skyline across the river. Just a few hundred metres after the Millennium Bridge and you’ll be back at the Cycle Hub, where it will no doubt be time for some well deserved refreshments before continuing towards the coast
